What do you expect from me? What do you expect from this performance? Something improvised, no?
So what does it mean that I’m reading to you now from my notebook? I have a script. Pre-determined. Does this not invalidate the improvisational element of the performance?
But what if I told you I wrote this this morning, while you were all enjoying your coffee and your pastries. Without thinking. Automatically. I improvised. I didn’t read it back. I didn’t edit the words on the page once I finished.
Is this performance improvised now?
Is it valid?
Am I valid?
Now that I'm edited? Now that I have no hair on my legs? Now that my armpits are bald?
Do you expect me to have clothes on? Would you rather me naked? Nude?
What do you expect from me, as a woman?
Well, tell me, what do you expect?
